Gonzague Pichelin est réalisateur documentaire depuis 1998. Avec Benjamin Sutherland, il a réalisé, monté et produit, George and Co, Portrait d'une librairie en viel homme, documentaire de 52' d'un libraire américain de 92 ans — l'un des derniers esprits de la beat generation — propriétaire de la librairie Shakespeare & Compagnie, à Paris, où travaillent et vivent des étudiants et écrivains du monde entier. Le film est distribué par Film Option (Canada). Il est diffusé en France et à l’étranger sur Rai Sat (Italie), Yle (Finlande), RTBF (Belgique) Book Television (Canada). Il est actuellement diffusé sur Sundance Channel (États-Unis). Gonzague Pichelin a également tourné et financé deux films documentaires, actuellement en cours de production : Nico le Descendeur, portrait documentaire de 52' sur les pérégrinations africaines d'un Breton, livreur de voitures (Bretagne, Maroc, Mauritanie, Sénégal) et Clear Water College, documentaire de 90' retraçant 2 ans de la vie d'étudiants d'un ranch-école au cœur du désert du Nevada (États-Unis). Professeur à l’Institut des Médias, à Paris, il dirige pour la 3e année consécutive, des sessions trimestrielles sur l’écriture et la réalisation de projets documentaires avec des étudiants de second cycle.
Gonzague Pichelin, documentary filmmaker since 1998, directed, edited and produced (along with co-director Benjamin Sutherland) the 52-minute documentary Portrait of a Bookstore as an Old Man. The film, about a 92-year-old member of the Beat Generation and his Paris bookstore-commune where traveling writers and students live for free while working in the shop and writing, is distributed by Montreal-based Filmoption. The documentary has been purchased by Sundance Channel (USA), RaiSat (Italy), YLE (Finland), RTBF (Belgium) and BookTelevision (Canada). Pichelin has financed and shot two other documentaries now in production: Nico le Descendeur, a 52-minute portrait of a French smuggler of cars to Africa (filmed in France, Spain, Morocco, Mauritania and Senegal) and Clear water College, a 90-minute documentary that follows two years in the life of students in a student-run ranch-college in the Nevada desert. Pichelin is a professor at the Paris-based Institut des Médias, where he is now teaching college students, for his third consecutive year, the writing, filming and editing of documentaries.
